TDP Not To Contest In Ananthapur District

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, during a review meeting in Amaravati on Tuesday, instructed officials to conduct local body elections within this month adhering to poll code norms. But with the elections coming near, opposition TDP is not ready to contest the local body elections from some of the districts such as Ananthapur district.
Diwakar Reddy opened up and said that the TDP will not contest the local body elections in Ananthapur district as contesting elections would involve police cases of which he is not yet ready.
“We are not going to win the elections. But the contest would give a chance to the government to file cases of code violations. We are not ready to face such cases and go to jail,” Diwakar Reddy told the media.
However, he fought aggressively against the YRSCP government during the last year’s general elections. This time he is not prepared well to contest the elections. Naidu insists on the party contesting the elections, it is to be seen what stand Diwakar Reddy would take.
Jagan, on video conferencing, said that they were prepared to conduct the elections to gram panchayats, Mandal and Zilla Parishad as well as municipalities and municipal corporations.
