TDP Set to Form Government in Andhra Pradesh, Naidu Speaks with PM Modi and Amit Shah
With the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) poised to form the government in Andhra Pradesh, party chief N Chandrababu Naidu spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday.
During the phone call, Naidu congratulated both leaders as the NDA, which includes the TDP and Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party, looked set for a decisive victory in the state. According to the Election Commission, the TDP had already secured three seats and was leading in 130 out of the total 175 assembly seats. The Jana Sena Party was leading in 21 seats, and the BJP in eight. In contrast, the ruling YSR Congress (YSRCP), which had won 151 seats in the 2019 assembly polls, was trailing significantly, leading in only 13 seats.
PM Modi and Amit Shah congratulated Naidu on the TDP's strong performance in the assembly elections.
As per sources, Naidu will likely take the oath as Chief Minister on June 9 in Amaravati.
The assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh were held on May 13, alongside the Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 assembly elections, the TDP won 23 seats and the Jana Sena Party secured one seat, while the YSRCP achieved a three-fourths majority with 151 seats.
