Taapsee Pannu To Play A Cricketer Role, Mithali Raj In Biopic

After playing an elderly role in Saand Ki Aankh, Taapsee Pannu will now be seen wearing cricket gloves and pads in her upcoming project. The actress is seen playing the main lead role in Indian women's cricket captain Mithali Raj's biopic, Shabaash Mithu.
While there were reports that the actress will be playing the role of the cricketer in the latter's biopic, she never confirmed the same. Today, on Mithali Raj's birthday Taapsee took to social media to announce the news officially.
Taapsee shared a few pictures of herself with the skipper in which Mithali is seen cutting a birthday cake. Along with the images, Taapsee shared as, "Happy Happy Birthday Captain @mithaliraj! You have made all of us proud in more than many ways and it’s truly an honour to be chosen to showcase your journey on screen. On this Birthday of yours I don’t know what gift I can give you but this promise that I shall give it all I have to make sure you will be proud of what you see of yourself on screen with #ShabaashMithu. PS- I am all prepared to learn THE cover drive’ #HappyBirthdayCaptain (sic)."
Last year, when the news of Taapsee being signed for the biopic broke, then the actress had replied as "the script is not in place so it's too early to talk about it. Right now, the team is collecting material and the script has not been written yet. If they offer me, I will be very happy. I really want to do a sports biopic."
It seems Taapsee's wish has been granted as she will be seen in a number of sports biopics. Apart from Shabaash Mithu, in which she will be playing as a cricketer, the actress will be seen in another biopic of athlete Rashmi from Gujarat. The movie is titled as Rashmi Rocket and a motion poster of the film was released previously.
