Tata Advanced Systems Secures Indian Army Order for Pinaka MLRS Overhaul
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has received a significant supply order from the Indian Army to support the overhaul and upgradation of in-service first-generation Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) and Battery Command Posts (BCPs). The initiative strengthens indigenous defence capabilities through a public–private partnership involving the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME).
The supply order was formally handed over to Tata Advanced Systems in New Delhi, marking the beginning of collaboration with the Indian Army’s 510 Advance Base Workshop (ABW). The programme aims to ensure sustained availability, reliability, and peak operational performance of the Pinaka MLRS, one of the Army’s frontline artillery systems.
In the initial phase, Tata Advanced Systems and 510 ABW will jointly carry out a pilot overhaul of select Pinaka launchers and command posts. Once this phase is completed, the remaining systems will be overhauled by the Army workshop, with TASL providing certified spares, technical expertise, and quality assurance support.
Tata Advanced Systems, in partnership with DRDO, played a key role in designing and developing the Pinaka MLRS, achieving nearly 80 per cent indigenous content. The system is an all-weather artillery platform mounted on an 8×8 high-mobility vehicle and features automated “shoot-and-scoot” capability for rapid deployment and survivability.
With future-ready modular design and support for guided rockets with extended ranges, the Pinaka MLRS reflects India’s growing self-reliance and technological advancement in defence manufacturing.
