Telangana Announces Big Salary Cuts Amid Pandemic

The government of Telangana has decided to impose big salary cuts ranging from 10% to 75% for its executive, political representatives, and employees, as the country completed 6 days of the 3-week lockdown to slow the march of the COVID-19.
The cuts will be for all institutions, government employees and retirees and Public Sector Undertakings that are receiving government grants.
The pandemic has hit the worldwide economy worst. Last week, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said the world has entered a recession that will be worse than of 2009.
Telangana took action early. On Sunday, CM K Chandrasekhar Rao had hinted at part-payment and delay in salary.
The CM is taking a 75 % salary cut, along with his cabinet, MLCs, MLAs, state corporation chairpersons, and local bodies representatives.
There will be a 60% salary cut for IAS, IPS, IFS and other Central Services Officers. For the other category of employees, there will be a 50% salary cut, the government said.
For Class IV, outsourcing and contract employees, there will be a 10% cut in salary. Pensioners will have to take a 50 % cut and for Class IV retired employees, there will be a 10% cut.
