Telangana: COVID19 Fake News Checking Website

After implementing an innovative idea of deploying drones to check lockdown conditions in the state, Telangana has now come up with an even more advanced and digital plan to fact check the coronavirus claims in the state.
To stop the spread of fake news, the State government, on Thursday, launched a dedicated website https://factcheck.telangana.gov.in.
The website is a vital step to check, stop and fight against fake news regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). There is much fake news doing the rounds on social media which some of the people seem to believe in. This needs to be stopped as fake news might create misguidance among citizens that can lead to a sense of insecurity and carelessness.
“It is aimed at dispelling the fake news and misinformation campaigns on social media platforms and to provide facts and context wherever applicable,” the website states.
Stating that spreading unverified information could influence people to take a wrong decision which would impact their livelihood and could also result in loss of lives.
The website will host articles and posts that are circulated on social media and fact check its claims. The best part about the website is that the users can also submit their posts to check if they are true or not.
Telangana is the first state to set up such an exclusive portal for fact-checking on fake news. The website is a result of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication (ITE&C) in partnership with Factly Media and Research to develop the dedicated web portal, aimed at dispelling the fake news.
