Telangana Gets First Eco-Friendly Sewage Treatment Plant
Dr. G Padmanabham, Director of International Advanced Research Centre (ARCI) for Powder Metallurgy & New Materials, Hyderabad, and Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), Nagpur, inaugurated the first Phytorid-Scientific Wetland with Active Biodegradation (SWAB) based sewage treatment plant (STP) in Telangana.
The plant is developed to treat the sewage which contains all types of organic wastes, suspended solids, and pathogenic microorganisms. Sewage will be treated before it is discharged to the environment.
Dr. G Padmanabham reminded everyone of the importance of these kinds of environment-friendly technologies and encouraged everyone to contribute to developing such strategies. He also expressed keen interest in collaborating with CSIR-NEERI in areas of development of materials for environmental technologies.
Phytorid is the best-equipped technology for Indian conditions and was flexible in design according to user requirements. NEERI, who develop and establish such type of STP have been successful in commissioning several Phytorid based STPs across the country.
Currently, the treated water is used for gardening and greenery development on the campus. Phytorid technologies are low cost, low energy consumption and reuse of water for floriculture, washing roads, flushing in addition to gardening, etc.
