Telangana To Get WHO And WEF Centres Soon, According To KTR.
Two international organisations, the World Health Organization and the World Economic Forum, have chosen Telangana to establish their projects at Genome Valley, lending credence to the state's abilities in the life sciences sector. On Tuesday, IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said that the specifics, including an m-rna project by the World Health Organization, would be formally announced soon.
These developments follow Gland Pharma's announcement to invest Rs 400 crore in Telangana to advance its presence in Genome Valley. Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla Centre of Excellence in Infectious Diseases and Pandemic Preparation is to be Located in Hyderabad, Serum Institute of India, He Said.
In a press conference held at this location, the Minister announced that Telangana would play host from February 24–26, 2019, to the 20th edition of the industry event BioAsia. Over the event's 19 years, it has welcomed influential people from over a hundred different nations. Reflecting Telangana's strengths, it marketed Hyderabad, Telangana, and India as a location ideal for businesses in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and life sciences industries.
More than 20,000 meetings were held as a result of the event, along with many LoIs, bilateral cooperation agreements, and MoUs, as well as 30 knowledge papers and policy recommendations, he said, all of which had helped the State realise investments in the tune of Rs 25,000 crore in previous editions.
Invest India featured BioAsia to serve as an example to the other States in 'creating exclusive and branded platforms. Large ministerial and industrial delegations from countries like Switzerland, Norway, Thailand, Korea, Argentina, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, and South Africa attended the event. Several other awardees were also present, including Nobel Laureates, Food Laureates, Lasker Award recipients, and Breakthrough Prize laureates.
This year, Professor Robert Langer will receive the Genome Valley Excellence Award for his work in mRNA technology. This year, "Advancing for ONE" will serve as a rallying cry for those who want to see healthcare become more person-centred. The United Kingdom will serve as the international partner country, and Flanders will serve as the international partner region, with participation from 50 different countries. Estonia, South Africa, Vietnam, Switzerland, and others will send delegates.
There will be 175 vendors at the event. There will be an "Innovative Zone" there for startups, of which 75 were chosen out of 400 applicants. Also present were Telangana Life Sciences Director Shakti Nagappan and IT and Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan.
