Telugu Cinema Scared of Biggies
Tollywood has seen some big movies that came with huge hype but performed way below the expectations at the box office and ended up as a disappointing fare. There are many stars who in the industry like ANR, NTR later Krishna, Krishnam Raju, Sobhan Babu, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh used to be at their prime They ruled the market for decades and majority of the distributors, exhibitors, buyers used to make handsome profits, with these profits producers used to make their other films. Also Later, profit investment from buyers in the next films dried out and financiers took over film financing.
Producers used to have a very good relationship with the distributors, exhibitors but with financiers coming into the business, producers are looking for table profits and through them, they are returning financiers money which grows infinitely with interest rates. Many films are not even released because they are unable to find the profits and even buyers. Buyers are investing huge amounts on the big stars in the hope of hitting success.
The expectations were very high on the big stars but this year, NTR Kathanayakudu, NTR Mahanayakudu lost more than 60 crores for buyers, distributors. Vinaya Vidheya Rama lost close to 30 crores of money. Though Maharshi collected big in other areas it lost money in Ceeded and Overseas.
Now, Saaho has been the talk of the town since the announcement. The trailer and the songs of the film have received a lot of love from all the quarters, but seems to be heading for solid 35-40 crores loss in Telugu markets as the Monday, Tuesday turnouts are very low in Ceeded, Krishna areas. Sye Raa and RRR are scaring Telugu Cinema Industry, as Producers are demanding unparalleled rates, Industry is hoping these two will turn the fate.
Even Sarileru Neekevvaru, Ala Vaikuntapuramu lo are being sold for huge numbers and we have to see whether it will be a success or again a disaster to the industry. We can see the medium budget movies like F2, Majili, Jersey and Evaru. Even Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, Brochevarevarura gave very good profits.
