Tensions Rise as Vote Counting Day Nears in State Assembly and Lok Sabha Elections
Tensions are increasing among political party competitors as the deadline for counting ballots in the state assembly and Lok Sabha elections approaches. The Election Commission of India has prepared everything needed for the counting process.
Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena told Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Nitish Vyas in a video call that all steps have been taken to ensure smooth vote counting.
According to Meena, counting will take 20 rounds in 111 assembly constituencies, 21-24 rounds in another 61, and more than 25 rounds in the remaining three constituencies. Trends will be available by noon, with results announced by 2 p.m. for 111 seats, by 4 p.m. for another 61 constituencies, and by 6 p.m. for the last three.
"The counting of postal ballots will also be done quickly by adding more tables if needed. Even if counting electronic voting machine (EVM) votes is delayed, the final state results will be announced between 8 and 9 p.m.," said the CEO. Despite some post-election violence in various districts, Meena assured that measures are in place to prevent any violence on the day of counting.
"Section 144 will be enforced near counting centers, and senior officials will be stationed in high-risk areas. Along with the Director General of Police (DGP) and other senior officers, I visited the affected areas to assess the situation. We will take all necessary steps to maintain peace and order in the state on the day of counting," he added.
