Thackeray Cancels Maha Aarti Scheduled For May 3 Because He Doesn't Want Social Tension During Eid.

Stating that he doesn’t wish to create social tensions during the festival of Eid, MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) President Raj Thackeray appealed to his party workers not to perform ‘Maha Aarti’ that was scheduled on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya.
In a tweet from his official Twitter handle, MNS president also stated that the loudspeaker issue was not a religious matter but a social one. Futher he added that he would inform on Tuesday how he planned to go about it further.
This was a departure from Thackeray’s statement at a rally in Aurangabad on Sunday in which he had said that he was firm on his May 3 “deadline” for removing loudspeakers from mosques.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said Thackeray’s rally aimed to create a divide in the society and indicated legal action against him.
Walse Patil said the Aurangabad police commissioner was looking into the “provocative and objectionable content of the speech.”
Walse Patil said a meeting would be held on Tuesday with top officials where a report will be presented on the issue and a call taken accordingly.
“A report on the same will be sent to senior officials for further action,” said a police officer.
