The RRR song receives a nomination for Best Original Song at the 2023 Academy Awards.

The historical epic RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has received a nomination for the Best Original Song Oscar at the forthcoming 95th Academy Awards.
The RRR song "Naatu Naatu" is up against "Applause" (Tell it Like a Woman), "Hold My Hand" (Top Gun: Maverick), "Lift Me Up" (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), and "This is a Life" in the category of Best Original Song (Everything Everywhere All At Once).
Actress Allison Williams and actor-rapper-producer Riz Ahmed made the nominations official on Tuesday night. Rahul Sipligunj, MM Keeravani, and Kala Bhairava are each nominated for the song "Naatu Naatu." Previously, "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionaire by AR Rahman and Gulzar took home the prize for Best Original Song.
Importantly, the Gujarati film Chhello Show was chosen as India's official entry for the Best International Feature category at the Oscars, replacing RRR. RRR was widely believed to be a lock for the selection. The movie was also passed over for nominations at the Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America awards, which are both seen as significant (and reliable) indicators of Oscar success.
Since Lagaan was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars more than 20 years ago, RRR's nomination is the largest win for Indian cinema. Slumdog Millionaire gained notoriety locally after it won Best Picture and Best Director in 2009.
