Twitter Warns Indian Users About Data Breach

This is turning out to be an extremely stressful year for social media users. Twitter on Saturday admitted that a malicious code was inserted into its app by a hacker. It could have compromised several android users’ information worldwide, including in India. Twitter sent e-mail to some Indian users - warning them to update the app for Android and immediately change the password.

The vulnerability within the app for Android could permit the hacker to see non-public account info or to control account, said an apologetic Twitter. Though the company said that they did not have direct evidence that malicious code was inserted into the app, but they can’t be completely sure about it.

Twitter, however, did not divulge the number of affected users. The issue did not impact iOS users. The new data breach in the Twitter app was reported 2-days when numerous Indian users saw warning pop-ups from Google Chrome browser to change their passwords.

Twitter has faced several vulnerabilities in the recent past. In May, Twitter revealed a bug that shared some iOS users' data with an unnamed partner. In February, a bug in Twitter showed private tweets of some Android users. In a mega data breach last year, it discovered a bug that stored passwords in plain text in an internal system.
