Twitter explains its temporary rate limit implementation.
The microblogging service Twitter has explained its recent decision to "temporarily" implement rate constraints.
Its Business blog wrote, "To ensure the authenticity of our user base, we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform." This temporary reduction in capacity was implemented to facilitate identifying and removing bots and other malicious actors posing a threat to the platform.
Also stated was the possibility that the bad guys might have altered their behaviour had they been aware of these measures in advance. In a nutshell, the firm is trying to shut down the accounts harvesting public Twitter data to develop AI models and manipulate users and their interactions.
The firm has stated, "At this time, the restrictions only affect a fraction of users," adding, "We will provide an update once the work is complete."
Furthermore, the platform asserted that the restrictions have had "minimal" effects on ad revenue. We recognise that there is always more to do, but we are dedicated to making Twitter a welcoming and inclusive community for all users.
On Tuesday, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino commented on the explanation, saying, "When you have a mission like Twitter — you need to take major actions to maintain and strengthen the platform. This is important and ongoing work.
Last week, Twitter owner Elon Musk announced that he had temporarily limited the number of posts that users may view in a day to avoid data scraping and system manipulation.
His explanation arrived after millions of users worldwide, including in India, criticised him after the micro-blogging service experienced a widespread outage that left tens of thousands of people unable to use it.
