UN Backs Priyanka Chopra!

The Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF, Priyanka Chopra has been facing criticism for her February 26th tweet. After India conducted an airstrike in retaliation of Pulwama attack, Priyanka took to her Twitter handle and posted “Jai Hind #IndianArmedForces”, with Indian Flag and namaste emoji. Since then Pakistan wanted her to be removed from the goodwill ambassador post.
UN spokesperson has come forward to defend her and told that she has the right to speak in her personal capacity. Answering a question about Chopra in his daily briefing on Thursday, the spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Stephane Dujarric, said, “When UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors speak in their personal capacity, they retain the right to speak about issues that interest or concern them”.
He further added, “Their personal views or actions do not necessarily reflect those of UNICEF, but when they speak on behalf of the UNICEF, we expect them to adhere to UNICEF's evidence-based impartial positions”.
Pakistan has further tried to escalate the issue after India removed the special status of Kashmir. This week, Pakistan’s Human Rights Minister, Shireen Mazari, accused Priyanka of showing support for war and demanded her removal as a goodwill ambassador.
On the work front, Priyanka will be seen next in Shonali Bose’s ‘The Sky Is Pink’. It is the true story of a girl named Aisha Chaudhary, who suffered from immune deficiency disorder and died at the age of 18. Priyanka is portraying Aisha’s mother.
Jai Hind #IndianArmedForces 🇮🇳 🙏🏽
