US authorities are investigating the claimed range of Tesla vehicles and personal benefits
Elon Musk-guided The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is conducting an investigation into Tesla regarding the perceived range of its televisions and individual choices. The electric vehicle manufacturer revealed in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that subpoenas pertaining to benefits, vehicle range, and personal judgments had been issued by the Justice Department. Tesla stated in its filing, "We receive information requests from governmental and regulatory authorities, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, the SEC, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and numerous local, state, federal, and international agencies."
The organization stated that no government agency has reached a conclusion of malfeasance in any ongoing investigation. "It is impossible to forecast the consequences or outcomes of any ongoing issues." Tesla stated, "Should the government opt to initiate enforcement measures, there is a potential for significant negative consequences to arise with regard to our operations, financial position, cash flows, brand, and prospects."
The DOJ's investigation into vehicle range occurred in the wake of earlier this year's revelations that the automaker had, for years, exaggerated the range estimates for its electric vehicles. According to an investigation by Reuters, which cited industry experts and anonymous sources, Musk issued the directive to use algorithms to generate more optimistic range figures.
