Weird July storm? American health organization issues warning as covid-related hospitalizations rise
The CDC has issued a warning about the increasing incidence of Covid-19-related hospitalizations in the United States. According to the statistics, the percentage of people admitted to hospitals is at a record high (since December 2022). It indicated that the number of hospitalizations of patients with Covid increased to almost 7,100 in the week of July 15 from 6,444 the week before. As of July 21st, around 0.73% of visitors may be attributed to Covid, up from 0.49% a month earlier.
Dr. Brendan Jackson, the CDC's Covid incident manager in Atlanta, told NPR that the trend of recent months has been an uptick.
The leading indicators have been rising over the previous several weeks. We've also noticed an uptick in hospitalizations this week for the first time in quite some time," he said.
He went on to say that the big increases in the Southeast "could be the start of a late summer wave."
However, she reassured us that Covid rates remain at "near-historic lows" in the US, and that overall infection-related mortality are falling to their lowest rate since the CDC began tracking them.
According to Fox News, NYU Langone Medical Center professor Dr. Marc Siegel has reported a summer increase.
For people in high-risk categories who haven't recently been infected with the virus or immunized against it, I will most likely suggest the new XBB subvariant booster this next autumn. Although Dr. Marc Siegel would normally pay close attention to wastewater analysis, he does not believe that this indicates an impending outbreak because of the widespread immunity still present due to previous infection and vaccination, as well as the fact that we are still within the Omicron family, with most infections remaining mild and hospitalizations showing only a slight uptick.
