West Bengal Exit Poll Results 2026: BJP Gains Edge in Close Contest
The exit poll results for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections suggest a tightly contested political battle, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as a strong contender against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). The state, which voted in two phases to elect representatives for all 294 assembly constituencies, witnessed an impressive voter turnout exceeding 90% in both phases, reflecting high public engagement.
According to the Zeenia AI exit poll, the BJP is projected to secure between 144 and 160 seats, potentially enabling it to form the government. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC is expected to win between 129 and 145 seats, indicating a close race that could go either way. The official counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
Despite the BJP’s projected lead, Mamata Banerjee remains the most preferred choice for Chief Minister, garnering 42% support in the survey. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari follows with 36%, while TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee and BJP’s Dilip Ghosh trail significantly behind.
The high voter turnout is being interpreted as a sign of strong anti-incumbency sentiment as well as increased political mobilization by both major parties. The election is seen as a crucial test for the BJP’s expansion in eastern India and for the TMC’s ability to retain its stronghold.
While exit polls provide an early indication, their accuracy has varied in the past, and the final outcome will only be confirmed once votes are counted. Political analysts are closely watching the results, as they could significantly influence national political dynamics ahead of future elections.
