Women Journalists Assaulted by Congress Workers in Revanth Reddy's Constituency
In a shocking incident, two women journalists, Avula Saritha and Vijaya Reddy, were assaulted by supporters of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in his native village of Kondareddypalli, located in the Mahabubnagar district. The attack has sparked widespread outrage among the journalist community, leading them to file a complaint with DGP Jitender. The journalists also plan to approach the Telangana State Women Commission to demand justice and action against the perpetrators.
The two journalists were in Kondareddypalli to investigate and report on the status of the farm loan waiver, a highly contentious issue in Telangana. Saritha and Vijaya, known for their critical coverage of Revanth Reddy’s administration, were targeted by the Chief Minister’s followers, who physically assaulted them, ignoring their gender and professional status.
Reports indicate that some of the assailants forcibly seized cameras from the journalists' crew, taking away the digital storage cards to prevent them from capturing and sharing the views of local residents. The journalists were also detained at the scene, further exacerbating the severity of the situation. Photographs of one of the attackers, who was later identified as a close aide of Revanth Reddy’s brother Tirupathi Reddy, went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation.
The incident prompted a strong response from BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, who condemned the attack as unprecedented in the 10-year history of Telangana and the 60-year history of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Expressing shock and anger, he described the attack on the journalists as "atrocious" and questioned the safety of women journalists under the current Congress regime, which claims to follow the legacy of Indiramma
