Encroachers Must Vacate or Face Eviction, Warns CM Revanth Reddy
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy issued a stern warning to those occupying water bodies illegally in Hyderabad, urging them to vacate voluntarily or face eviction. He emphasized that the state government would not tolerate unauthorized constructions and reiterated its commitment to demolishing illegal structures in and around water bodies.
During the passing-out parade of newly recruited sub-inspectors at the Telangana State Police Academy, Reddy attributed the flooding in Hyderabad during rains to illegal encroachments on lakes and water bodies. To address the issue, the state established the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to reclaim such lands.
Reddy warned prominent individuals who had illegally occupied these lands to surrender them to the Irrigation Department, otherwise facing demolition. He also promised that no illegal structures built within Full Tank Level (FTL) zones or buffer areas would be regularized, even if court stays were obtained. The government is prepared for legal battles and aims to imprison violators.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister discussed the Musi Riverfront Development Project, which will be initiated after clearing encroachments along the river. Approximately 11,000 underprivileged residents encroaching on the riverbanks will be relocated to double-bedroom houses. He also announced plans to build residential police schools in Hyderabad and Warangal for the children of police officers, stressing the importance of making Telangana a drug-free state through a 'friendly policing' approach focused on victims, not criminals.
A total of 547 new sub-inspectors, including 145 women, completed their training at the event.
