Google to Establish Safety Engineering Centre in Hyderabad
Technology giant Google is set to establish its prestigious Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in Hyderabad, marking a significant milestone for cybersecurity innovation in India. The Telangana government recently signed a strategic agreement with Google LLC, reinforcing Hyderabad's position as a global IT and innovation hub.
Hyderabad, already home to Google’s largest campus outside the US at Gachibowli, will host the first GSEC in India and only the fifth worldwide, after Tokyo, Dublin, Munich, and Malaga. Spread across 7.3 acres, Google’s 3 million square foot campus is expected to be completed by early 2026.
The GSEC will specialize in developing advanced security and online safety products tailored for Indian users. It will focus on cutting-edge research, AI-driven security solutions, and fostering collaboration among cybersecurity experts and researchers. The initiative aims to boost skill development, create job opportunities, and enhance India’s cybersecurity capabilities.
Expressing pride in the partnership, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy highlighted Hyderabad’s emergence as a global hub for IT and innovation, hosting tech giants like Alphabet (Google), Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and Meta. Google’s Vice President of Engineering, Royal Hansen, emphasized Hyderabad’s potential to become the global capital for safety engineering, catering to cyber and digital security needs worldwide.
The partnership may also lead to initiatives like India’s first Google-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System, further cementing Hyderabad’s position as a leader in digital innovation. Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Google representatives were present at the event.
