AP Government To Release 250 Prisoners

Fearing the coronavirus situation in the state, Andhra Pradesh government has decided to release around 250 prisoners from the Visakhapatnam jail.
The order came from the Supreme court to the prisons department to reduce the number of inmates and temporarily release the prisoners under trial. A list of around 250 prisoners who were taken in remand and sentenced will soon be released.
“Up to 1,350 people are currently being sentenced and remanded and many will be released to avoid mass gatherings,” Prison deputy superintendent M Venkateswar Rao.
Apart from releasing these 250 prisoners, already Six Bangladeshi nationals were released from Visakhapatnam Central Prison on Tuesday evening. These six individuals are the ones who came with others to Bangalore but were somehow taken by the police and presented before the court after which they were imprisoned for years.
The only thing that concerns the police and prison department is how should these six prisoners be taken back to Bangladesh when there is a complete lockdown.
The coronavirus has infected more than 500 people in India with 11 deaths already being reported in the country.
