Vijay Mallya Promises for 14000 Crores Worth Assets, Fears for a Politically Motivated Trial
The eve of his crucial day in court, on the judgement day to decide whether or not the business tycoon Vijay Mallya can be extradited to India, he stated that he is willing to settle all pending dues towards Indian banks amicably.
CBI team has been earlier sent to London to attend the well-awaited case of the extradition of the fugitive business tycoon. The CBI's joint director, S Sai Manohar, left for London Sunday to attend a crucial hearing in the extradition case of embattled liquor baron Vijay Mallya on Monday.
"I did not borrow a single rupee. The borrower was Kingfisher Airlines. Money was lost due to a genuine and sad business failure. Being held as guarantor is not fraud.” Mallya stated to the media. He further said, “I have offered to repay 100 percent of the principal amount. Please take it. I have placed assets worth over Rs 14,000 crore before the Karnataka high court with a request that these be sold under judicial supervision.”
He continued to the media saying, “I have become a poster boy for bank frauds and I believe my reputation of such will affect the trial. My trial, I fear, will be politically motivated and the politicians will include numerous new allegations with intentions of propagating it more.”
He believes his offers to banks for returning all money will be declined under government pressure as the government would love to use this trial for their political agendas. Further added to his statement was that he has infused 4000 crores of his own to get Kingfishers out of the debt but the company failed and drained him.
