Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh Head to Delhi with Unmet Demands
Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are mobilizing towards Delhi after unsuccessful negotiations with Union ministers on Monday. The farmers' unions have outlined several key demands, underscoring their resolve to press for their rights.
Their primary demand is a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), echoing the recommendations of the National Commission on Farmers led by MS Swaminathan in 2005. Additionally, they are seeking a nationwide waiver of farm loans to alleviate financial burdens on agricultural communities.
Furthermore, the farmers are adamant about the withdrawal of police cases lodged against them during the protests in 2020-21 against the now-repealed agricultural laws. They are also calling for justice for the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, emphasizing the need for stringent action against the accused, including Ashish Mishra, son of MoS Ajay Mishra.
In addition to these demands, the farmers are advocating for a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 for every farmer and the allocation of land in Delhi for the construction of a memorial honoring those who lost their lives during the protests in 2020-21.
As tensions escalate and farmers intensify their protests, their steadfastness reflects a deep-seated determination to secure their rights and hold the government accountable for addressing their grievances.
