FasTag Recharge Scam: Individual Suffers a Loss of Rs 2.4 Lakh
The number of individuals falling prey to online scams in the country is alarmingly on the rise. Many people are being swindled by simply clicking on malicious links. A recent incident in Maharashtra highlights this growing issue, where a person became a victim of a 'Fasttag' scam, resulting in a loss of 2.4 lakhs.
In this case, a 47-year-old man from Nallasapora, Maharashtra attempted to recharge his FASTag account, but encountered an issue. In search of a solution, he turned to the internet. He found a phone number online, which he called to explain his FASTag problem. However, little did he know that he was falling into a trap set by scammers.
The scamster, posing as a call center employee, assured the man that he could resolve the issue. He instructed the victim to download a remote access app, which the man did, thinking he was receiving legitimate assistance.
Once the app was downloaded, the scamster swiftly took control. In a matter of moments, the 47-year-old man lost 2.4 lakhs as the scamster conducted six fraudulent transactions. After swindling the victim, the scamster abruptly disconnected the call.
Shocked and realizing that he had been scammed, the victim promptly reported the incident to the police. An official complaint was filed, and the police have initiated an investigation. As of now, the scamster responsible for this incident remains at large.
