Garcetti said at the event that more Indian students come to the U.S. than from any other country. The US Mission in India gave out more than 1,250,000 student passes.

The embassy said that the US Mission in India gave out a record-breaking number of student visas: more than 1,250,000. In 2022, Indians got the most H&L work visas (65%) and F1 student visas (17.5%) of anyone else worldwide. More than 1.2 million Indians came to the US last year, making them one of the biggest groups of foreign guests in the US.
