Hyderabadi billionaires on Forbes India's Richest list
The Forbes 2023 ‘India’s 100 Richest’ list includes four Hyderabad billionaires. MuraliDivi and family are the leading Hyderabad billionaires in Forbes, ranking 33rd with $6.3 billion. Divi's Laboratories was created 33 years ago by US-trained scientist MuraliDivi as a drug development organisation.
P.P. Reddy & P.V. Krishna Reddy followed with $4.05 billion to rank 54th. P.P. Reddy, an agriculturalist, started Megha Engineering Enterprises in 1989 to build municipal small pipes. The corporation soon added dams, natural gas distribution networks, power plants, and roads to its portfolio.
After being renamed Megha Engineering & Infrastructures in 2006, P.V. Krishna Reddy's company completed Telangana's $14 billion lift irrigation project, India's largest. Forbes observed that BYD-powered subsidiary OlectraGreentech had a strong order book of 3,000 buses.
The 75th position was held by the Reddy Family (Dr Reddy's), who made $3 billion from their investment in the generics company. P.V. Ramprasad Reddy, 98th on Forbes, has $2.35 billion. P.V. Ramprasad Reddy, who co-founded Aurobindo Pharma in 1986, helps develop diabetes and heart medications on the board.
Aurobindo Pharma gained approval to introduce Revlimid in India in September 2023. Its revenue comes from the U.S. and Europe.
