KCR Govt’s Annapurna Food Scheme Serves 10 Crore Meals.

The Telangana government’s flagship subsidized meal programme ‘Annapurna Food Scheme’ has reached a unique milestone of serving 10 crore meals in GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) since its inception in 2014.
Annapurna proved to be a lifesaver for underprivileged and needy beneficiaries, especially during pandemic-induced lockdowns and floods. Under the Annapurna Food Scheme, piping hot and hygienic meals are served to the urban poor, particularly daily wage workers in Hyderabad.
The scheme was formulated to make sure not even one person goes hungry, something that CM KCR has always stressed, GHMC officials on Monday said.
Annapurna Food Scheme provides affordable and hygienic food at a nominal cost of Rs 5. Rice (400 grams), sambar (120 grams), curry (100 grams), and pickle (15 grams).
Over 45,000 lunches are served every day as part of the Annapurna Food Scheme, which was launched in 2014 at 150 Annapurna centres, also known as Annapurna Canteens.
These canteens, which are a boon for the poor, are located at popular streets, major landmarks, markets, and major government hospitals, and during lockdowns, mobile Annapurna canteens were pressed into service to reach out to a maximum number of people at their doorstep.
