Kamala Harris appoints former Clinton staffer to lead primary campaign in state
U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris who is running for presidential election 2020 has selected a top Democratic operative from South Carolina who worked on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign in the state and rose to the highest levels of congressional politics to lead her 2020 primary operation in the Palmetto State.
Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign announced on Friday that it has hired Jalisa Washington-Price as the California senator’s state and national deputy policy directors, helping to lead and advise Harris’ campaign in- and out-of-state efforts while based in South Carolina.
Washington-Price is a Columbia native and University of South Carolina graduate. She is the daughter of former Richland County Councilman Kelvin Washington. Most recently, she was the chief of staff of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, playing a crucial role that helped Democrats take back the majority of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Her selection shows how Harris is placing a significant emphasis on South Carolina, home to the South’s first presidential primary.
