The victim was stabbed in the temple and was a resident of the Telangana town of Khammam. After suffering a brainstem damage, he was sent to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where his status was said to be very severe.
According to Varun Raj's father Ramamurthy, they found out that he was assaulted on his way home from the gym. Varun Raj was working a part-time job in addition to his MS.

According to a media source, a 24-year-old guy assaulted an Indian student in a public gym, believing the victim was about to "assassinate" him.
According to The Times of Northwest Indiana, Jordan Andrade was taken into custody on Sunday morning after stabbing Varun in the head during a massage at the Planet Fitness Club in the Indiana city of Valparaiso.
Andrade said to Valparaiso Police that Varun is "threatening" and "creepy," and that he fears that Varun would "assassinate him."
since of the depth of his injuries, Varun was sent to a hospital in Fort Wayne. According to reports, he has a five to zero percent chance of surviving since the knife went through his temple and eventually into his brain stem.
Andrade is being held at the Porter County Jail on charges of aggravated violence and attempted murder.
When police entered the massage chair area of the gym, they found a folding knife on the counter that they believed belonged to Andrade and a significant quantity of blood on one of the two chairs.
They discovered Varun with a head injury, reclining on a massage chair.
As stated in a charge document, Andrade said that once he saw Varun was a danger to him, he made sure to respond in the "correct way."
Andrade "just reacted" because, according to the police, "he described (the man) as a threat to him."
Varun, according to Andrade, never stood up from his chair or made any physical contact; police indicated that Andrade's accusation that Varun tried to force him off was the only physical contact that occurred.
Varun was described by other gym patrons as a someone who "tended to keep to himself, was quiet and reserved."
On the accusations, Andrade is expected to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon before a judge in Porter Superior Court.
