Indian-Origin Man Brutally Attacked with Machete in Australia, Four Teens Arrested

An Indian-origin man, Saurabh Anand, 33, was left severely injured after a brutal machete attack in Melbourne, Australia, by a group of teenagers. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on July 19 near the Central Square Shopping Centre in Altona Meadows.
According to Australian media, Anand was walking home after visiting a pharmacy when five teenagers surrounded him. They reportedly tried to rob him and then launched a violent attack. One attacker slashed his wrist and hand with a machete, while others beat him and stabbed him in the shoulder and back. The injuries left his hand hanging by a thread, and he suffered a fractured spine and multiple broken bones.
Despite his condition, Anand managed to flee the scene and call for help. He was rushed to a hospital, where surgeons initially considered amputating his hand. However, doctors were later able to successfully reattach it after a complex surgery.
Four of the five suspected attackers have been arrested. The police are continuing investigations to identify the fifth assailant. The incident has sparked outrage and concern among the Indian community in Australia.
This attack follows another recent case involving Indian student Charanpreet Singh, who was reportedly racially abused and assaulted near Kintore Avenue in a separate altercation. These incidents have intensified calls for stronger action against youth violence and racially motivated crimes.
